How to Make Dosa for Beginners

Step-by-Step Basic Dosa Recipe
Soaking the Ingredients
- To begin, Wash rice and urad dal separately and soak it overnight for 8 hours.
- Similarly, wash and soak fenugreek seeds for 8 hours.
Grinding the Rice, Urad Dal, and Methi seeds
- In the Morning, drain the water from the rice and grind it in a grinder or a Mixer very well till it becomes a paste.
- You can add water to make it paste consistency.
- Next, drain the water from the Urad dal and fenugreek seeds and grind both in a grinder or a Mixer very well till it become a paste.
- Again, you can add water to make it paste consistency.
Mixing the Batter
- Now mix the paste of Urad dal, methi seeds, and rice with your hand very well for 2 minutes.
- The result should be semi-liquid, Meaning it should not be too watery nor to solid.
Fermenting the Batter
- Afterwards, place a plate below the bottom of this vessel and cover the batter vessel with a cotton cloth and a plate at the top.
- Let this batter sit for 5 to 6 hours alone in a warm place in summer.
- Alternatively, Let this batter sit for 7 to 9 hours alone in a warm place in winter. You can also use a woollen cloth to cover it.
- Once the batter has fermented and doubled in size, use a spatula to mix the required amount of Himalayan pink salt(Do not use table salt).
- Now our dosa batter is ready.
Cooking the Dosa

- Once heated sprinkle water and gently clean it with a kitchen towel.
- Then, spread the dosa batter using a Laddle in a circular motion, following this dosa recipe.
- Sprinkle 1/2 spoon of ghee, sunflower oil, or sesame oil at the edge of the dosa batter.
- You can make it crispy or soft as per your choice.
- Finally, After one or two minutes, you can see the edge of the dosa change colour to brown or orange.
- Now turn over the dosa. Cook it for half a minute.
- Now your dosa is ready to serve.
- Serve it with Tomato chutney, Coconut chutney, Sambar and Vada.
